Can I show a Netflix (Amazon, Hulu) video in my class? Can the library purchase a license for a video on Netflix (Amazon, Hulu)?

Answer

  • These are commercial services for personal use and they do not allow libraries to subscribe.
  • Amazon and Hulu do not provide any exceptions for classroom use. Please see the terms of use for your subscription.
  • Netflix sometimes provides for exceptions for educational use, you would need a personal subscription to the service. Items available under this program are marked with either of the following Grant of Permission or an Educational Screenings Permission (ESP) on their details page.
  • For more information on the Netflix program please use the link below.
  • For information on other commercial streaming services, please check the terms of your personal subscription, but as a general rule, educational and public performance rights are not included.
  • However, we do provide access to several streaming services (as well as DVDs and Blu-Ray) which you can find at the below links.
